On 26 October 2024 the new Worker Protection Act 2023 (Amendment of Equality Act 2010) came into force. This followed a government consultation in 2021, in which 54% of people indicated that they had experienced some form of harassment at work. This new legislation marks one of the most significant updates in more than a decade and signifies a notable shift in UK workplace discrimination laws.
The Act introduces a new legal obligation for employers to take “all reasonable steps” to proactively prevent sexual harassment in the workplace.
